Pranayama and Yoga

Due to my allergies blocking up my airways this past week, breathing has been a challenge in and of itself. This issue became even more apparent during my yoga practice. Remembering to constantly breathe during my practice is something I really struggle with. I always find myself focusing too much on my body's positioning and let my breath wander away from me. So lately I have made it my main objective to keep a smooth, steady breath and make slight corrections to my form when need be, rather than dwelling on it. I feel my practice is most effective when I get into grooves where my breath is present. My poses flow and I move with purpose.

This pranayama is not just something that is beneficial on my mat, but off my mat as well. I have found that breathing when I am running has come a lot easier now. I am able to keep a long, consistent breath rather than short choppy ones. Also, as strange as it may sound, I have incorporated breathing exercises into the very end of my day before I go to sleep.
